Who else has noticed the ridiculous evolution of the mobile phone? Why buy a camera, a computer or a fax machine when you can do it all with a mobile or PDA! In Japan they’ve even developed mobiles the size of a wrist watch, and they’re attached to your wrist too. LG just released a PDA that uploads directly to YouTube. Rumour even has it that in the very near future, mobiles and laptops will make the humble desktop all but obsolete.

In the US recently, Verizon Wireless has enabled the customers of major financial institutions real time mobile access to their accounts from a range of mobiles, from makes including LG and Samsung. This leap in secure mobile technology adds yet another capability to the rapidly growing list of jobs you can do from your palm. They can review and pay bills and even transfer funds between accounts from anywhere they have mobile reception.

One of the most common gifts this past holiday season was the cool new phone or PDA. So if you’re one of these people what can you do with your old mobile? Did you know Mobile phones are made up of many toxic substances. The elements contained in a mobile phone include arsenic, beryllium, cadmium, copper, lead, mercury and zinc. These poisonous substances can leach from decomposing waste in and seep into groundwater, contaminate the soil and enter the food chain.

Is there really a cancer risk associated with the use of mobile phones? To date, there is no hard evidence of this but most researchers agree that more studies need to be done. What is for certain is that phones distract the mind and pull attention away from a users immediate phisical environment. For obvious reasons this can be fatal in some cases like when driving. But you’ll be surprised to hear that almost a million people are hurt or killed globally from messaging and talking on the phone when crossing the street and being hit by a car, or bus, as the cliché goes.

Mobile phones in this day and age have been designed as an ubiqoitous tool, designed to fulfil most personal electronic needs. Some phones come FM recievers and transmitters, TV receivers, GPS, alarms and child tracking devices. Some can also be made to receive streaming video from remotely controlled camera bots. Now even the internet is fully accessable from almost anywhere on the planet.

Mobile phones are evolving from communication tools to integrated communication devices, media terminals, credit cards, and remote controls. The world’s love affair with the mobile phone has evolved into a technological obsession. Every few days, mobile designers develop and release a new technology, astonishing the world on a daily basis with their new toys.
